About Me

Welcome.

I'm an active citizen who likes to stay physically active.

In 2018, I'm returning as an ambassador for the Skechers Performance MultiSport Canada Triathlon / Duathlon Series.  I'm an active duathlete in the Ontario scene, which is full of a close-knit and friendly group of people pursuing our passion.

A few years ago, I created this blog to record the adventures along my journey as an age-group duathlete, runner and cyclist. Elsewhere in the social media universe, I've also served as a digital champion for the Toronto Yonge Street 10k, a race hosted by Canada Running Series (CRS).

I'm now a coached athlete with two groups in Toronto: X3 Training for cycling and MB Performance for running.

In addition to my athletic endeavours, I believe in serving my community and do so both as a public servant and a volunteer.  By day, I work for the Ontario government, where I am involved in community building in the Greater Golden Horseshoe region.

I'm also active in facilitating civil service discussions about how government deals with complex policy issues.  To make progress in areas such as homelessness, accessibility for people with disabilities, poverty and climate change, we need to engage with communities, businesses, non-profits and members of the public to develop solutions together.  I occasionally tweet with the hashtag #BBPS, for Building Better Public Services, after the Tony Dean book by the same name.

By night, I like to volunteer and am currently in search of a way to give back to my city, after I "retired" following seven years on the board of Dixon Hall Neighbourhood Services, a non-profit located in the heart of the city that serves people in the Regent Park and St. James Town communities.  The agency has a long, proud history and in fact, was incorporated in 1929 as one of Toronto's first settlement houses.  No matter where you are in life, Dixon Hall will be there for you.  It runs programs for children, youth and seniors, a music school, an employment centre, and housing & homelessness services.

I am a past volunteer with the United Way Toronto & York Region's speakers bureau.  In that capacity, I visited businesses, schools and public sector employers to give speeches that describe the power and impact of the organization and the agencies it funds.  Over the years, I spoke to thousands of Torontonians.

It's safe to say that I keep busy.

I'm proud to be a Torontonian, an Ontarian and a Canadian. My alma mater is Ryerson University, where I graduated from its broadcast journalism program.
